After growing up in a city where people spend their lives in cars and offices, the thing that has struck me the most about life in Italy is how publicly emotions are displayed in piazzas and on the street.  For the most part, it seems to me that Italians live a life defined by inclusion rather than exclusion, and this is a value that has been cultivated over many years. I’m just beginning to understand the day-to-day here, but I feel as though there is an intimacy to Italian city centers that’s lacking in my experience of my hometown.
